| Some people like to do things because they think they are funny. But you have to be careful because some people have no sense of humor and if those people are armed therer could be... trouble.
Some states are "open carry" states in which it is legal to publicly carry a handgun as long as it is not hidden. Some states will go further; you can concealed carry a handgun if you have a permit. As far as long guns (rifles and shotguns), go, many states - especially those with hunting seasons - allow open carry of long guns, so you don't have to hide your firearm in a scabbard when traveling to or from the hunting area or your car/pickup. Most people, if they saw a couple guys in flannel shirts and high-visibility vests each openly carrying a downward-pointing shotgun, would not be scared and would presume they are hunters on their way to the hunting area. A bunch of guys tried something on camera to see what would happen. In a state where openly carrying one's long guns are legal, they walked into a police station, shotguns pointed down, and, since it was cold out, wearing ski masks. While this is perfectly legal, the cops went ballistic and screamed at them to drop their weapons. While it was funny as hell on the video, pulling a stunt like this near nervous police officers can get someone killed. |
