I got it for a buck in a humble bundle, but those sneaky sneaks only made the DLC available through gog, so I repurchased with the DLC in the winter sale.

It's a GTA-style game in a gorgeously rendered future Tokyo represented at a Where's Waldo level of zoom:

The game takes place in a Mirror's Edge-style dystopian future where a nanobot miracle pill gives everyone on Earth immortality, even against dismemberment with a sword. Assassination isn't that big a deal anymore so that's how you make your living while trying to solve a mystery by doing illegal things for every wacky criminal you stumble across. It's the kind of game where you fight heavily armed gangs of nudists and there is a button to uselessly sprout a Blade Runner-style long coat to look cool while leaping across rooftops.

This was originally conceived as a multiplayer game where the players were indistinguishable from NPCs and the goal was to blend in with the crowd and take the other player by surprise, something especially important considering how slow the bullets move in this game. Controls are mouseaim-WASD with the ability to rotate the camera in eight cardinal directions. Guns aim in 3D, but this game does it so much better than Brigador by making sure your bullets move at chest-height above the ground you're aiming at, something that makes robotron-style running and gunning much more doable. There is platforming, but the game makes it as painless as possible for an isometric game by rendering a line directly under your dude at all times so you can determine exactly where they'll land.

Once you get a handle on the controls, this is an exceedingly pleasant game to play, despite the ridiculous levels of violence. From the vibrantly colorful visuals to the spectacularly eclectic soundtrack this is a 10/10 on the Fussbett Fable scale of games worth playing just for the art design. It's also one of the few games I've played that uses depth of field effects well.

It's on sale right now, I'd hesitate to pay full price for this game, but it's most definitely worth $10. The DLC is a separate campaign of Metal Gear VR Missions-style mini stages.
