THE BLACKCOAT'S DAUGHTER (2017) (NO SPOILERS) by Fullofkittens 12/21/2018, 9:07am PST
Jay from Redlettermedia recommended this in their 2017 wrapup; I watched it last night on Amazon Prime.

Here's the no spoiler review:
If you liked SESSION 9 (2001) then you will probably like this. It's very low budget indie horror flick with tons of atmosphere, great cinematography, and good performances from Sabrina the Teenage Witch and the Mean Girl from AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN, plus Samantha's rich ex-boyfriend from SEX AND THE CITY. I liked it. I think I'm going to watch it again. It's a good winter horror movie in the same way that LET THE RIGHT ONE IN (2008) is.

However: I got to the end and went "...what?" Friends, I did not understand what happened at the end of THE BLACKCOAT'S DAUGHTER. Partly whiskey probably had something to do with it.

The film takes place in an all-girls school which is closed down for the xmas break. Sabrina the Teenage Witch and one other girl both stayed behind at the school, the latter having something to do with a possible unplanned pregnancy and Sabrina...because her parents didn't show up to take her home. It becomes apparent very quickly that something is not right with Sabrina. There is a parallel story where Mean Girl from AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN is an escapee from a mental hospital who may or may not be in danger from Samantha's rich ex-boyfriend from SEX AND THE CITY who picks her up and takes her in. More than that I will not say in this NO SPOILER REVIEW. (SPOILER REVIEW to follow)

It's a good slow burner that looks great (good score, too) and it sticks with you. I recommend it! Now onto the spoiler review. (You don't want it spoiled for you if you intend to see it.)
