Ray of Light: one interesting thing about this bet is we think different parts of it are contentious. I assumed the amazing claim would be the elimination of optical media, but the part you find shocking is that flash cards + circuitry will not be prohibitively expensive
Sanitario666: yeah
Sanitario666: I think the replacement will be broadband delivery if anything.
Ray of Light: maybe in Japan! Here in North America the internet is run by gangsters
Sanitario666: And if you want to talk piracy exclusively, I think Steam-style online DRM might prevail too
Sanitario666: I don't find the elimination of optical media shocking at all.
Sanitario666: I think flash will replace optical everything extremely soon.
Sanitario666: Apple is already one-step towards that conversion
Ray of Light: on a PC the format makes sense, you read it once and throw it away
Ray of Light: well, as much sense as anything that you read once and throw away
Sanitario666: Well two gens from now I expect the HDs to be pretty big on consoles.
Ray of Light: yes but by then the optical drive will look passe and old-style
Sanitario666: huh? I'm saying you load your game off the flash drive to the HD
Ray of Light: which is then secured by steam DRM. I see
Sanitario666: yeah
Ray of Light: that is a good second-most-likely scenario

Ray gives me the runner-up prize.
