ok I should do a real and honest review so the correct opinion is here

Streets and bridges are super wide and buildings are huge so there is no sense that you're piloting a gigantic destruction machine. (although renting the game at the same time as godzilla, which gets the scaling RIGHT didn't help.)
the mechs are not supposed to be the size of godzilla (and that is a very ironic statement considering the scale of godzilla was different in every other scene of the movies), so they actually got the scale of the mechs completely accurate
Forget getting creative with the jump jets, as some tiny hills have invisible barriers atop them that make scaling the slippery final 2 inches impossible. Draw distance makes the range advantage of long range weapons moot, unlimited ammo and no minimum fire distance makes the fast-firing and enemy-seeking missile weapons the best weapon.
this is indeed kinda gay, they stripped a ton of the simulation aspects out (one thing you didn't even mention: no ability to go back to the old missions with an atlas) all the weapons in this game are enemy seeking missile weapons, again this is a giant step down in the PPC area, because those old blue bolts of lightning were just a straight up awesome effect, and now the game is all about auto aim and CHARGING YOUR PPC TO DO MAX DAMAGE *spit*
Armor is represented by a single bar.
this didn't bother me so much, you can never end up losing all your weapons in this, it does squarely rape the aspect of simulation right in the eye socket but for a console game it's not the worst thing I have ever seen (and it really helps streamline the game's pace by removing the need to shut your mech down inside the rare mech bay)
Just as well as the autoaim precludes aiming at specific limbs in this Battletech game.
limbs can still be blown off especially when you or an enemy start to run low on health, a mech might end up limping with a crippled leg or lose an arm and some of it's firepower, but you can regenerate these instantly if you collect an armor pickup
Mechs have this silly anime/agent smith white light shooting out of their hull before exploding effect.
this was in the previous games as well, but the effect just wasn't as nice. more importantly, MA gets the mech explosion effects completely correct, in MW the moment you killed an enemy mech it would instantly deal damage to the surrounding area BEFORE it exploded, but in MA you can actually run away from the clearly visible and defined shock front in the nick of time, so at least they got that right
Of special note is the plot. The developers are so incredibly desperate to prove to players that they are indeed heterosexual, you can practically smell the anonymous public bathroom cock on their breath. Your CO is a CGI woman whose chest is so large and whose waist is so small that she crosses the line from "dream body" to "disturbing mutant freak."
hot
When she's not making embarassingly ham-handed innuendoes (before a mission to blow up some boats she drawls, "Time to get wet") and reassuring everyone in radio distance that you the player do indeed pork her between every mission, she's busy shrieking at the jimmy-olsenesque tech officer. She calls him "briefing boy" as what I assume is supposed to be an insult, but actually just draws attention to the fact that he's the only one of the two that has a useful purpose. Forget the haunting alien soundtrack of MW2, whenever a mech or elemental shows up, some generic heavy metal guitar RAWK starts looping endlessly to show how manly and virile you are.
the game is indeed dumbed down heavily for the console tards, but I have to say the areas where they did dumb it down were still well executed at the very least, the stupid bitch commanding officer (who btw did you know that you and her have had sex?) sorta spews her dumb one liners with a tongue in cheek attitude (and her tongue might be other places as well hehe yeah high five or even a high ten broseph) which maybe doesn't excuse how really cheesy it all is, but the main atmosphere is one of unbridled fun, which is a nice change of pace from the serious business of the previous games in the series, it's strictly a matter of opinion whether you may smirk at the dumb jokes chimpler style or you will be infuriated by the tremendous disrespect to the sanctity of the game's loooooooore
But probably the biggest mistake of the game is starting it out with you fighting hundreds of tanks and helicopters before even seeing a mech. I think the point was to show how badass a battlemech is supposed to be compared to conventional arms, but it actually shows how tactically silly mechs are. A swarm of relatively inexpensive tanks and helicopters using hit-and-run tactics from every direction will quickly overwhelm a mech (at least with this game's twitch-and-you-lose-it lock on targeting system) while a big juicy easy-to-target mech can be kept in your sights and pelted mercilessly with missiles and PPCs until it dies in seconds.
maybe you should change your name to mischief sclerosis :(
The box sez game of the year?
yeah because it sold a million copies in one year basically, I am not defending the game, it does get a few things right and in general is a fun little third person over the shoulder shooter, but for some reason it felt the need to take the name of battletech to try and sell more copies which was just straight up gay. if you expected a MW game, you would be hugely disappointed, but that still didn't stop me from wringing some enjoyment out of it
