Re: YOU'RE TAKING MY WORDS OUT OF CONTEXT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By "investigate," I mean rely on something other than anecdotal evidence. Not that I'm doing that, but...
Most of the anecdotal evidence we're relying on is our own. The most terrifying thing in the world to a 13 year old white kid is a classroom full of blacks. Of course, once they actually get a month or two in and have time to overcome their pre-existing prejudices, they realize they weren't scared enough. Why didn't anyone tell them about all the screaming, throwing things, jumping up on desks, spontaneous dancing, fistfights, saggy jeans, etc?! Anecdotal evidence is all you need to see there's a big problem here. I'm not sure why you're focusing so much on the region. I grew up in Florida and went to a pretty rural school. Terrifying! But I bet it's nothing compared to walking into a high school in Compton or Long Beach today. If anything, this article soft-pedaled the problem. Don't kid yourself that getting good teachers in classrooms is going to turn this thing around. There's a lot of cleaning up to do at home.
