Re: Dear online liver diary
Rejection doesn't show up as anything but fever and high WBC count at first, for the most part. Liver enzymes can go haywire in the beginning and sometimes do, but not always. I had 14 rejection episodes! Average, they told me, for that point in time. The word conjures up Alien-like images of getting a funny look on your face and hocking the bloody liver up into your lap during football, but that's not what happens. In other news, I was just taken off Sandimmune (nonmodified cyclosporine) and switched to Gengraf (modified). Because there's an acceptable generic for Gengraf, I can pay nothing through insurance (Sandimmune = $1200/month retail, $50/month w/ copay). I have been on Sandimmune for 21 years. Feels weird to be switching my mainstay life-support drug. Cyclosporine is the only drug I'm now on. My advice to you, Laudable, is to not call your hematologist a faggot. Sometimes they are one, and then you get a puzzled look and the moment turns tense. Sometimes they get mad anyway, because they identify as straight but have a gay friend or something. All in all, not worth it.
