Re: The crafting mechanic in Terraria is stupid easy, a baby could do it
Are we disagreeing? You don't compare it to Minecraft's crafting mechanic, so I have no idea if you think it's not stupid easy, or that a baby might not be able to do it. In fact, I'm pretty sure kids play Minecraft and also, and even gamer dads. :( Here's my point, as clearly as possible: neither game tells you beforehand what materials and in what quantities/shapes you'll need to make a given item, or that any given item even exists. Therefore: wiki. More specifically, in Minecraft you have to stand in front of a crafting table with the appropriate mats and know the shape to put them in. Some recipes are shapeless and don't care, others are exceedingly basic shapes, others are a little weird. Few people are going to guess the cake or piston recipe, I think, and I got close but didn't quite figure out fence gates without help. (For that matter, coal on a stick is a completely bizarre concept for a torch.) In Terraria you have to stand in front of either a crafting table or a furnace or an anvil or a woodsaw or a loom or a table with a candle and jar on it with the appropriate materials, and then you get a list of what you can make. That eliminates the shape aspect, but is offset by the fact that there are dozens more recipes, scores more items to craft with, and several different tables to stand in front of in succession if you want to just guess this stuff.
