Re: Off to fashion school ta.
a few months ago, before this change of heart, I was watching this documentary while a lot of friends were over. Some of them sat down and joined me, and when this particular moment came on, nearly everyone was transfixed by this wonderful music, so wonderfully performed, rich with such uncommon precision and passion. Minutes later they were talking about what pompous jackasses the musicians were, always going on and on in this documentary about how eating wasn't just eating but some transcendent bullshit and viols weren't just viols but trapped souls and whining, and pfff who did they think they were and who did they think they were fooling. I wanted to watch the rest of the show more than I wanted to argue, but I did suggest that they had themselves seen the fruits of this magical thinking. And nobody was particularly moved by this line of reasoning. The music itself had become boring and worthless to them now that they had seen where it came from. Since you seem to have difficulty seeing through my evasive style of communication, I'll spell this one out: I stopped siding with the strict materialists a while ago; aside from the whole "dead to wonder" thing, they are dicks and sometimes unconscionably shallow. While I "get" why you're trailing after me with your off-message heckling, it has yet to be funny, and while being unfunny it's more than a little dickish and shallow.
