Transparently Manufactured Drama: The Series
Persons Unknown was an American/Mexican/Italian co-production, filmed in Mexico with American actors and pre-sold into all three markets. Basically a very expensive telenovela. I don't watch a lot of TV these days, but for some reason I saw every episode - even though I only really liked the first couple. I think I must've really bonded with Mysterious Audience Identification Guy. THAT COULD BE ME UP THERE, SOLVING THOSE SIMPLE PUZZLES, TELLING THE BLACK GUY TO WATCH MY BACK! Then they revealed his (my?) backstory, and it wasn't <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDqiMCf-O9s">"I sell televisions at Best Buy"</a> like the similarly competent blank slate guy from the Dawn of the Dead remake, it was just a bunch of stupid soap opera rubbish. From that point on it was all downhill until the season (ha ha, SERIES) finale, which probably better than any finale in history perfectly illustrated what a complete waste of time the preceding twelve episodes had been. It's one of those finales where you watch it and you just have to admit you got trolled. Also, this show should've come with a trigger warning for people who lose their shit when they see TV characters in dangerous situations throwing their guns away because they don't have a use for them <i>right this minute.</i> I think someone does that every episode.
