Re: Burn Notice

I'm always on the lookout for light "comedy" shows that don't make me laugh too much as a way to fall asleep at night (perhaps in the same way people read New Yorker cartoons?). When Psych episodes ran out, I started watching Burn Notice. Bourne Identity meets The A-Team. Some unlikeable douche is on the lamb from the government and in the meantime takes the role of Murdoch of accepting jobs from people in need. It might finally be time to admit he wasn't good in anything but Evil Dead as you watch Bruce Campbell play the womanizing Face. Rounding them out is a skeleton playing the loose cannon Hannibal. Perhaps the most confusing recasting decision lies with the protagonist's Mom as the phobia prone Mr. T. Instead of throwing goons, Bourne Identity gun disarm fights break out. Instead of montages of welding plating to the van, you get montages of soldering electronic bugs to cell phones. Instead of just letting action play out with the viewer absorbing information, you get lots of Dukes of Hazard freeze frames as voice overs explain the obvious. Every time I want to believe television has gotten better, I remember that Mission Impossible never had to freeze frame on every new character entrance to put their name and "title" up in subtitles. Special mention goes to the psycho ex-IRA-ex-girlfriend giving such an atrocious Irish accent that they just decide to drop it forever by the 2nd episode ("I'm in Miami now! I can't go around talking like a leprechaun!"). I'm probably still going to be watching it until season 6 of Psych is available next September =( (At least Ray Wise is in the first episode.)
Some unlikable douche . . . Bruce Campbell wasn't good in Brisco County Jr, or this show . . . I disagree with you here, this is a good show. Later they add another character, Jesse Porter, who shows up in season 3 (I think). He gets some of the best lines. Which A Team member is he? Also, this show is all about the current bad guy that's ruining Michael's life. First it's Cylon chick, then later it's Fraser's dad. The current guy is gratifyingly satanic.
