MASSIVE WEEK LONG SEGA SALE
Details here. This is a special publisher sale instead of the usual Deal of the Week, so no Gold subscription is required. Daytona USA, Guardian Heroes, Jet Set Radio, Nights into Dreams, Sonic CD, and Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown are all OUTSTANDINGLY EXCELLENT PORTS. Daytona USA is better than the arcade version. Nights had some control issues that were fixed in a patch. Guardian Heroes for $2 is basically stealing. Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and Sonic & Knuckles are all INSULTINGLY SHIT PORTS, courtesy of Backbone Entertainment (nee Digital Eclipse). They're still outstanding games, obviously, but even if you absolutely have to play lacklustre emulations of them on your Xbox 360, a cheap copy of Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection is still better value (NOTE: I do not recommend Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, either). I can't speak to the quality of the "Dreamcast Collection" ports (Crazy Taxi, Sega Bass Fishing, Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, and Space Channel 5 Part 2) except to say I don't think they're actually ports of the Dreamcast versions at all. Crazy Taxi, for example, uses the inferior PlayStation 2 physics, which made me so sad I didn't even bother trying the rest. Maybe you can take a flyer and fill me in? Or maybe I'll cave and just pay the $2 for Space Channel 5 anyway - it's still got Space Michael, how bad can it be? As for the original games The Cave, Renegade Ops, and Sonic 4: haven't played 'em. I fucking *know* at least one of you has something to say about Renegade Ops. Don't lie, I've seen it in your played games lists! Is it worth $4? Is it worth my *last* $4? Finally, I don't like to mention Games on Demand in this thread - why download when you can own a disc, usually for less money? - but Condemned: Criminal Origins was one of my top ten games of the generation, and I'd be remiss if I didn't take any opportunity to talk it up a bit. It's definitely not for everyone. In fact, I'd say it was made specifically FOR ME. Just an immensely satisfying, hilariously dumb B-movie of a game. I probably blow through it once a year just to relax. Like Costume Quest, but for people who were playing Blood fifteen years ago instead of "nothing".
