Okay, 4 episodes into season 3 and yup it sucks
They just keep dragging on the A plot of lonely unstable (bloated) Jimmy Smits. Not only wasn't it very interesting, there isn't even any progression. Dexter has to get the one-half dimensional brother cop out of the way? That would barely pass as a single episode in previous seasons, but here it's the whole season. What finally sunk it for me though was the show succumbing to the eventual "cast creep" syndrome, where a show has been going on long enough for the cast to start demanding more scenes for their characters with a wider range, regardless of whether or not the story calls for it. It happened to the third season of Homeland and it happened to the third season of Dexter. Do I care about Deb falling for a guy who's barely related to the case? Angel pouring his heart out to a vice detective? Jesus christ even the comedic relief perverted forensics nerd gets scenes of him being sad and introspective now. These characters only existed to orbit Dexter, now they're independent soap opera cutouts. Oh well. At least Netflix just got the latest season of The Killing, a series that I've enjoyed so f...oh FUCK another season three!
