been watching dexter again over the past week and
pretty much all these proclaimed negatives really don't hold much water. dexter's feelings for rita still seem genuine as a guy who is a sociopath who tends to be selfish and protective about the few things he cares for. even lila's psychobabble seems to come more from a place of legitimate understanding about how addiction and recovery programs work. I can easily imagine how the novel that the show was based off could have botched all these elements and made them into shitty camp. the fact that dexter was "turned into" a murderer from childhood trauma and having the ice truck killer secretly be his brother could have been the dumbest comic book level bullshit, but the show still managed to pull it off expertly.
