Confucius
Apparently there was some controversy over Avatar getting pulled from screens in China to make room for this so angry American reviewers panned it. I can see both sides of the story. On one hand, the character of Confucius is ridiculously perfect in this movie, and his only flaw is that he's not properly appreciated by the rubes of his time. But really, isn't that the same as every single Jesus movie, save Passion of the Christ? I could see Confucius as the "Jesus" of China even more than Bodhidharma. And really, do the Chinese have the same hard-on for a feature-length white-guilt-a-thon that we do? As for the film itself, I give it a B-/C+. It's enjoyable at the beginning when Confucius is outmaneuvering conniving politicians while maintaining his moral standards, but the second half of the movie where he and his apostles are wandering China in poverty drains the life out of the film. The battle sequences are kinda meh as well.
