I don't think I can be a part of the "gaming community" anymore.
I realize this is because everyone in the "gaming community" is in their teens and twenties, and we were all like this, but: If they had just released PA out of nowhere, and it was not the "spiritual successor to Total Annihilation", people would be going nuts for it. It is ABSOLUTELY the most fun, hilarious (not because of jokes, but because of the massive size and destruction of the battles, and planets smashing into each other, etc, etc.) RTS I've ever played, and even if there are better ones, I still think people would be going nuts for it. But it's regularly being SAVAGED on Steam forums, Reddit, Metacritic, all the other hangouts for cretinous reprobates, and all of the complaints are TRIFLING, when compared with the actual "fun" an actual "well-adjusted person" could have playing it. So rather than enjoy this little gem, it's more fun to pick out things like "TA was better" and "orbital sucks" and "I paid $100 and still no offline mode!!!!!!" (that's a big one) and post long angry entitled missives on all these terrible websites. What is the point? I know it's fun to hate things and pretend to be outraged, and I know if I just wait a while, about 80% of these people might grow out of that phase, but it really makes it hard to be a part of the whole SCEEEENE, man. Anyway, PA is great, everyone go buy it.
