Lone Survivor
Why hadn't I heard about this before now? I love good war movies. I absolutely hate bad war movies, I can't even enjoy them as b-movie schlock, as the subject matter is supposed to be taken seriously. This does lay it on pretty thick with the MURRiCA FUCK YEAH but sometimes that's a good thing, if executed right (as I feel is the case here). And of course America IS awesome, so that's rarely a bad starting point. Anyway, didn't really expect much. But it turned out to be one of the best war movies I've ever seen. I'm struggling to think of a better one, not counting TV series (which would have to be a tie between BoB and Das Boot, I guess?). There are too many bad war movies. Either they're just, ya know, poorly written/directed/acted/etc, or they're overly preachy or sentimental. Lone Survivor obviously has a HUGE throbbing boner for the armed forces, no anti-war message anywhere in sight, but it's still an absolutely horrific depiction of modern warfare. Faggots need not apply!
