I'm trying to like this
But the obsession with turning every area and boss fight into precise platform jumping coupled with SHIT handling plus enemies that knock you back like crazy (and respawn when you climb back up after being knocked off into a pit for another try) PLUS the dash being so easy to accidentally activate fucking up your jump PLUS it seems arbitrary which wall bits you can bounce off of. Bosses have been 90% platform jumping and only 10% pummeling. I almost quit on that tedious Frozen One boss. A game hasn't aggravated me this much with platform jumping since the original Ninja Gaiden. Now I'm at some some temple where everything is fire damage without any warning it was going to be fire themed, and my checkpoint is inside the temple so I can't go back to town and get a fire resistance potion. The platform jumping has also been cranked up a notch with spikes everywhere. The tutorial hints blow. They just stop after they tell you about magic. I had no clue your crew could assist until I stumbled across it in a guide. The tutorial never even mentions assists. The map blows. Far as I can tell, you can't look at any area outside your own, nor is there an overall map to show how the areas connect. Vital shit like skill point resetting is hidden in backtrack bullshit, made worse by the terrible map. The skill tree is just slight numerical bonuses to damage and defense. Maybe it opens up later on once I'm out of this intro mode? Oh shit! 25% through the game already?? It's trying to be Metroid but missing so many of the things that made Metroid work. Metroid gave you a trickle of cool new badass abilities and less emphasis on platform jumping combined with tighter controls. One quarter the way through Valdis story and I have a wall jump and a higher jump...no wait, a pillar of ice that I can hop on for a little extra height. Ten times the precise platforming with wonkier controls and the most annoying enemy stun knockback juggling in 20 years.
