It starts out with a pretty good conspiracy plot around where Jessica got her powers and what happened there but stays pretty small instead of creating some unified particle accelerator explosion where a bunch of powered people can come from. Overall it reminds me a lot of The Punisher because events happen and they wrap up our character is kind of left where she started with maybe a slight glimmer of hope at the last minute. That's it for not spoiling shit, here's hoping have a narrow field of vision. This was a solid ten episodes and could have just cut some fat(All the Pryce Cheng shit) wrapped up the plot with Karl(who did nothing wrong)/Trish/Jeri/Malcolm earlier, given Jessica a catharsis before fucking the last few minutes of the last episode, and just ended with her mom getting arrested. Note I didn't include any of Jeri's stuff because I thought it was really good and it could have simply been sped up a little and happened earlier on. Instead we continue down a stupid road of: <ul> <li>A needlessly evil head of security</li> <ul><li>Whom is the only one who enacts reasonable measures(shock bracelets) to subdue Jessica's super mom even if it is just to force feed her an old pork chop</li> <ul><li>DALE 'mutie hater' MURDERCOP'S Personal Log:</li> <li>GOT THE INMATE TO EAT THE DAY OLD PORK CHOP</li> <li>TIME TO THROW AWAY THIS INVALUABLE TOOL TO RESTRAIN HER</ul></ul> <li>A stupid 'addict' plot with trish/malcolm</li> <li>A stupid "oh whoops I killed someone" netflix trope scene. I could just feel this coming, knew it was Karl or Dale.</li> <li>An ok david tennant cameo</li> <li>A ridiculous "coded" phone conversation that feels like a child trying to cover up that he spilled juice</li> <ul><li>This comes right after the head of security of a super powered lady with a super powered daughter dies suspiciously, but everyone thought he was a dick so it made the murder easy to cover up I guess?</li> <li>They even talk about how nice her new guard is!</li></ul> <li>A ridiculous double cross of Malcolm by Trish because I guess she wanted powers from the very beginning or because she used drugs or something?</li> <li>Jessica interrupting Trish's super power procedure because she's better off at metro general than in the care of a guy who saved two (maybe more) people from the brink of death</li> <li>Karl inexplicably killing himself. Maybe Jessica's true power is driving completely innocent white men to suicide with her snarky commentary?</li> <li>The new nice head of security deciding she should just march into the cell of the rage powered strong lady who was having a melt down and subsequently getting killed(women poc death toll: 1)</li> <ul><li>She flips out after seeing Karl's suicide on the news why they didn't leave the shock bracelets on her or put her in restraints she can't break out of is probably in the script somewhere</li></ul> <li>A confrontation after Jessica's mom kills Trish where det. detectiveman tells his tubby black partner to "cuff her" in response to the super powered rage lady, who subsequently overpowers her and surfs her body down the building like Dante in DMC3(women poc death toll: 2)<li> <ul><li>We don't actually see her surfing on the body but you'll enjoy it more if you pretend</li></ul> <li>Jessica's mom somehow being on the run with super strength that could topple a skyscraper (new yorkers are sensitive about that shit) with no real pursuit</li> <ul><li>She literally travels from prison, time's square (I think), the hotel Karl was at, the hospital Trish was at and then Trish's apartment all in a stolen car</li></ul> <li>An ok road trip thing with Jessica and her mom where they save people (of color)</li></ul> Then it all finally gets wrapped up when Trish who somehow went from being on death's bed to getting all the way to the Ferris Wheel Jessica and her mom were on to reminisce I guess, and blows Jessica's moms brains out. I realize everyone thinks I have the mentality of an edgy 12 year old, so I'm not embarrassed to say I laughed my ass of at this. It just was hilariously out of place and only enhanced when you see Trish looking up in the background. It just was so fucking Netflix having someone's brains randomly get blown out as they're talking about how they're going to finally surrender at the end of the ferris wheel ride. Then we get it finalized that Trish and Malcolm hate Jessica and she hates them back and I guess they'll get the Foggy treatment of having random shitty cameos or something. Then at the very end the VERY VERY VERY end Jessica throws a bottle of booze at a junkie and tells her new boyfriend's kid about it. Oh boy! I wonder if she'll just be completely fucking reset by the time season 3 rolls around. Altogether even for the first ten episodes there's a lot of pity party shit going on. Jessica didn't want to live, didn't want powers, didn't want a successful business but is more than happy to lecture people about addiction while she's a hardcore alcoholic. We even get a scene of her at an anger management course where she proves she's totally angrier and worse off than every single person there. Moving the catharsis earlier would have eased this quite a bit[/quote]
