I've done enough divorce mediations to know better than to ever get married.
I think the whole concept of marriage is a fatally flawed bronze age contrivance, and I feel bad for the good people who feel like failures because they couldn't grit their teeth through the charade any longer. When you read the history of divorce law you learn the reason people didn't divorce more in the olden days were: 1) women weren't allowed to work and 2) the law was designed in a way to make it incredibly difficult. People went to weird lengths in the days before no-fault divorce, even staging fake adultery scenes, the term for which was "hotel divorce." So yeah, you don't see a lot of oncologists who smoke. I do have a dog. He's an incredibly handsome beast who knows how good-looking he is and uses it to get away with murder among groups of strangers when we're out on a walk. But then whenever I bring company back home he inevitably starts humping the furniture when he gets too excited. The way I see it, the humane society already cut his balls off so as long as he limits it to his own cushions, let him enjoy what he's got left. I keep visiting this anonymous forum because like a videogame it's a safe source of catharsis for me where I can engage in activities I wouldn't dare in real life. So much of adult life is suffering fools. But at the 'trops I can be an absolute asshole and a bully to people in ways I would never be in real life. Though I'll admit I'm less aggressive and more sarcastic and dismissive these days than I was in the past.
