No offense, but all of your concerns are stupid.
Imagine finishing highschool, going to college, getting a job, fretting about credit, and potentially spending ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS or more just to end up living next door to me, a man who declines to wear a shirt because his abs are too fuckin' good. A man whose retirement plan is charging a sailboat to his credit card and not paying off the credit card. I'm almost too wise to be a man, I'm more like a super-boy. If you've got a boat that can go around the world - and it doesn't take much, ten metres with a metal hull - and you know how to sail it, and you know how to fish, there isn't much anyone can do to you short of destroying the world and killing all the fish. And in times of financial uncertainty, sailboats are a buyer's market. You can't toss a rock in the sea right now without hitting a gently used yacht for sale. By the time winter comes and the weather turns nasty, they'll be giving them away just so they don't have to pay the moorage. But you don't have to pay moorage when you live aboard, and the weather's always nice down Costa Rica way. Obviously that's not the life I want. That was the life my parents wanted for me. I want my apartment in the city, where it's impossible to cut yourself off from all human contact no matter how hard you try. Do you have any idea how easy it is to be completely alone on the open ocean? Put a guy like me out there, you'll never see me again. At least where I am there's the hope that I can grow and change. Nobody ever changed living on a boat. They're like turtles living in their shells, it's heartbreaking. But it's a solid backup plan.
