Today I bought and then played the entirety of Little Inferno
It bears zero resemblance to Bonfire Peaks other than the vague general theme of burning your shit. I enjoyed it very much. I think I came into it with an incorrect mindset which is your fault, because relating it with Bonfire Peaks made it seem like it was supposed to be a puzzle game, which it very much is not. I mean, there's the tiniest little puzzle element to it, but I kept burning things waiting for the puzzles to start, until it occurred to me that's not what this was. Growing up in Clarksville, MD, a lonely, only child living in a farmhouse in the middle of nowhere, one of my favorite pastimes was getting a fire going in the fireplace, then just sitting there and throwing shit into it, watching the flames grow and flicker for a moment, then settle back down. I approached Little Inferno as if it was a puzzle game, instead of being an extremely accurately recreation of my favorite pyromaniacal hobby when I was a little boy, and I should have done it the other way. Little Inferno is Pinback Simulator 1980. Bonfire Peaks is one of the greatest puzzle games of all time. I like them both.
