Re: Do a lot of people dislike this book?

I came here to talk about Neuromancer, and noticed this post. I went to pick it up for the hell of it and saw a ton of negative kindle reviews. I haven't read this since 1989 so I thought maybe it sucks? But I'm halfway in and while there are a couple parts that are dumb all on their own with nothing to do with bad tech predictions (why on earth would we care that Molly can see the time of day on her sunglasses implant), it's mostly pretty good.
I have tried to read it 8 times. I have never finished it. It is simultaneously the most inspiring book I've ever read as a would-be author and the most dense quagmire of incomprehensibility where I honestly have no idea what he's talking about. The greatest opening line in science fiction to a novel and then I think he honestly just expects you to figure out motivations and plot without a single word indicating what is really going on. I'll probably try one more time due to this thread.
