It's also available from many hosting companies. It has this one issue, though: the stricter security makes it tougher to configure. That's it. That's all. The sole difference. SB insisted on it because he didn't want his site to be hacked by crazy Italians like OMM was occasionally (insert v joke here). MySQL is great because it's lightweight, easy to work with, and fast, but yeah, you can sneak an aircraft carrier through its security holes. Given the not-terribly-serious and sort of flaky nature of the site anyway, it didn't require pgsql, but the man wouldn't hear it. The man's wife took care of the rest. And yeah, they probably said 'ok fine' and just deleted everything at her request. Why would they keep it? Once she cancelled her account it was HD space they could use for something else, and backup tapes are more expensive than you'd think. In a market of marginal profits, they have to avoid any cost above what's absolutely necessary, and I'm sure lawyers and their own employees' not-cheap time dictated their actions. That said: It is possible that they still have a backup from a previous tape cycle. It is also possible that you could work out some arrangement where money changed hands. Is it worth a year's subscription up front to get it back? I'd be surprised if they weren't amicable to something like that. Also: I wonder why SB himself didn't have a backup. pgsqladmin and myadmin both have one-click backup features. /jeep/[/quote]
