First impressions
In retrospect, one thing that XCom EU and XCom 2 got extremely right was that when you kill a bad guy it feels very satisfying. So far the most distinctive interaction of Phantom Brigade is "I think I might have killed that guy but I'm not sure...?" There's like a "crashing"(?) state where bad guys are disabled but not dead or something? Blowing up a bad guy mech or tank should feel cooler than this. And then the 2nd most distinctive interaction is wondering whether you should have shot more times because there were 2 seconds left in the 5 second round and you just sort of watch the clock run out. Other things: - There's something hilarious about the cutscenes where the art style is "Ghost Master meets Paw Patrol" but what is being depicted is fascist soldiers kicking pregnant women in the throat. - The cool cinematics you see in the ads are technically possible to view using the replay feature but I don't see myself doing it very much, the ad hoc cutscenes in XCom were also better in this regard. I'm going to give it a little more time but I really want the robots blowing up to be more satisfying. This also made me remember that Frozen Synapse was a thing, and I wonder how well it plays on a modern PC.
