Spirit Island
I got into this damn hobby to take my mind off politics, but then I see Spirit Island is trending on the Board Game Geek website and learn that the publisher is going out of business due to Trump's moronic tariffs. This is the same publisher of Compile. I've only played one solo game so far, which I lost, so I'm not going to be very insightful. But I came away suitably impressed and believe the hype is deserved. It's like Pandemic meets the good part of Populous. You are the guardian spirits of a Caribbean island being colonized by European settlers who are in the process of slaughtering the native people and trashing the place. So you need to rouse yourself from ancient slumber and build your power to fuel catastrophic miracles to smash, burn, drown, electrify, and terrify the invaders into abandoning your home. BUT THEY KEEP COMING and your miracles per turn are limited, so every turn this game earns its moniker as a "brain burner." I love it. So... yeah... if you've been debating whether or not to get it, now's the time to move. One local store jacked the price up $20 since I bought it there two weeks ago!
