What Are You Playing Right Now?
::
Been playing this after the latest QoL patch.
First details out of the way: (+) It's a space 4X based on Master of Orion 2. (+) It has turn-based tactical combat. (+) The music is great and very Star-Trekky. (+/-) The interface is intimidating yet surprisingly functional. (+/-) You start off very weak and really need to combine bonuses wisely to get production levels up to speed. (-) The graphics are ugly. I like it better than the high production value competitors like Stellaris and Endless Space 2. Quite simply, in Stellaris/Endless Space 2 it feels like I'm playing through a pre-scripted campaign where I have to constantly pause and read some nerd's fan fiction, and my success is measured by how efficiently I hit my marks when the story calls for it. In Interstellar Space Genesis, the story is purely procedural. So far at least, every game I've generated has had something unique about the experience. And it's a story about MY empire and the actions I take, not like Endless Space 2 where it's Isyander's story and I'm essentially Kurt Russell in Big Trouble in Little China. And the sci fi tech just makes sense in this game. I research lasers and I get stronger lasers. I research robot factories and I get a population-independent production bonus. Not like Endless Space 2 where I research "Eukaryotic Bacteria" (the fuck?) and for some reason this makes everyone in my empire happy, but only on cold worlds (???) Anyhow there's a DLC coming soon, and the only clues about it are larger ships and the word "Epic." Looking forward to it!
