"Unstoppable" is my 2025 GOTY so far.
A solitaire deckbuilder that uses sleeves and unusually shaped cards to let you upgrade your cards in a physical game: <IMG SRC="https://preview.redd.it/unstoppable-its-so-good-v0-ima0jevoe0je1.jpeg?auto=webp&s=fa7418ea1d284d7da3eeac987e07559b35b45f5e" WIDTH="1280"> Definitely the best "monster gauntlet" style solo games I've played. The cards are double-sided with a player card on one side, and a monster to fight on the other. Every time you clean out the deck you "level up" and wipe the board, then you have to kill the monsters on the backs of your cards to get them back into your hand. At any time, if you have the money, you can buy up to two upgrades per card, which slip in between the two faces and display their bonuses in the little window the sleeve makes. However, each bonus you add to the player side has a corresponding bonus on the monster side. Your super souped-up card might be a vicious fight to get back in your hand. And it's a surprisingly thinky game. Many times I'd find myself in a situation where I thought I was going to get thrashed, then realized I could buy X upgrade and sleeve it into Y card to cause a domino cascade of effects turning an impossible position into a bloodbath rout of my enemies. And the cards are shaped in such a way that it's really easy to separate and arrange them during the aftergame teardown. The box includes organizers to keep everything arranged. I'm just absolutely delighted with the game. A real contender for 2025 GOTY. Recommended! PS: The "Tyrant's End" DLC is mandatory, and it's annoying that it wasn't included in the base game because it fills two glaring holes in the base game's card selection. So boo to that decision!
