Her grandpa is a real pisser, this fired-up old Italian guido from Jersey. He showed me his old radios he'd refurbished, these big old fuckers. He's telling me how they still work just fine, and I'm saying "Yeah, those transistor radios are pretty simple." He tells me "Transistors? These old bastards run on <I>vacuum tubes</I>, boy. The big German one takes tubes that are 30 bucks. I can get 'em in Arizona." Then he tells me that when he was a kid, he had real choice freebie treats. Couldn't afford ice cream from the ice cream man? Wait 'til he dumps his shaved ice, with a mixture of flavors, what we used to call a Suicide (every flavor from the 7-11 fountain), plus bits of wood splinters because the ice chest was wood in them days.
