Re: I actually downloaded MW3 because I loved MW4 so much

Welcome to battletech. I'm surprised you didn't notice right away the major flaw with endo steel, namely the massive number of critical locations it takes up. You absolutely can't use it on heavy mechs. I try to put my ammo in my arms, but that's a tradeoff since the arms are likely to blow off first. It's a strategy game, see. Everything you're complaining about here is part of the PnP game. It always struck me that mechs were a bit fragile for war machines given all the horrible shit that can happen to them. What's so great about ambulatory tanks again? But none of those problems are game breakers for me. It's still fun and not really that difficult. Did you get the Pirate Moon expansion? Also, have you seen Mechwarrior 4, the expansion pack, and Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries all together for $20? I never played Mechwarrior 4 but I jumped on that deal. Hopefully I'll have time soon to give it a try.
I paid full price for MW4:V, MW4 Black Knight and MW4 Mercs each when they were released. I would say they are worth it. I am getting some entertainment out of MW3 because I have been itching for some MW games for a long time, but I would say MW4 corrects some serious problems that needed to be fixed. The big difference is that it's less of a pure simulation and (a little) more arcadey. I did notice that thing about endo steel after I read a faq about the mechlab on gamefaqs. For some reason it's not explained anywhere in the mechlab.
I guess I'm weird. I loved 3 and absolutely hated 4. 4 was absolutely too 'arcadey' and killed all of the micromanagement fun for me. On the other hand, best mech game ever was MechCommander. MC2 was too easy and didn't match up. MC1 was love.
I was under the impression that 4 sucked as well, because of reports like yours. Then again, I used to love the hyper-realistic OCD lunacy that was F15 Strike Eagle III (and later Jane's F15 -- essentially Strike Eagle IV since it was the same dev team). Big war machine with millions of parts and lights and stuff? Sign me up.
