Re: You're too young to be so bitter.

Comic books suck. One thing I've been thinking about recently: why is it that so many people have such a hard time letting other people enjoy stuff? I don't mean stuff like pederasty or denying loans to niggers or group-shitting or anything even on uncertain moral terrain; I mean stuff like D&D, or pro wrestling, or calendars with kittens and puppies on them (if you're a guy! I guess that stuff is fine if you're a girl,) or high school, or Celine Dion. What's the big fuckin deal anyway? I get where it's funny to nail someone to the fence about stereotypical characteristics of goths or RPG junkies or whatever, but shouldn't there be a time when we all take each other down from the fence and say "hey, that's okay stuff you've got there, I'm gonna go home and watch Invader Zim and eat boxed Kraft Macaroni And Cheese (instant microwave edition) and I'll enjoy the shit out of it?" Then the other dude says "I'm gonna read some Army paramedic manuals and make some model guns in 3DMax, maybe I'll kick back some Grey Goose greyhounds, but more likely I'll just have Hawaiian Punch." Then both dudes smile and wave and go home to do their thing. And it's okay. I don't know. Maybe it's a useful metric for determining what kind of people you want to hang out with or see on your block, but the whole Taste Battle shebang is rapidly losing its gloss for me. You want to put on Michael Bolton and sing along off-key, you go right fucking ahead, I'm not gonna make fun of you at all. I may not want to stay in the room, but enjoy yourself and feel good anyway. I think this is what I've always hated about Pitchfork Media: they get snide about music that isn't Their Music and it puts their whole aesthetic empire on fearfully shaky terrain. What the fuck, FoK? I'm wondering now what your poisonous disdain for Smashing Pumpkins and being in high school and playing M:tG is. What about those things isn't okay, exactly?
Rather than respond point-by-point, I will simply direct you to this thread.
I searched google and i can see that Billy have written a book with poems. Damn, maybe i'll buy it.
These people are adults. The part where they mention The Cure is where I start crying. You remember The Cure, one of those 80's bands that finally (luckily!) culminated in the genius that is Smashing Pumpkins? FoK P.S. weren't you the one bagging on Interpol, like, yesterday? P.P.S. I don't have anything against being in high school or wearing a trenchcoat or laying D&D or anything of that stripe... aside from the fact that I realized -too late already- at age 14 that the whole goth thing is a trick that guys like Layne Staley and Billy Corgan have perpetrated on kids that age in order to sell records. To the point that Billy Corgan isn't an idiot, his sentiments are insincere. His sincere sentiments are idiotic. P.P.P.S. "P.P.P.P.S." stands for "Post-Post-Post-Post-Script." P.P.P.P.S. Even if Billy Corgan were sincere and didn't blow the only good thing he had going (sensuous layers of guitar overdubs) by stripping down his later recordings, Smashing Pumpkins would still have sucked because the guy just can't fucking sing. His voice is like a dentist's drill. But that's just my opinion.
