Final score lowered from 9.5 to 9
Beat it about a week ago. Still a great game, but it totally craps out on the last level. The entire joy of this game was sadistically fucking with groups of hapless guards. Around one-half to two-thirds of the way through, they start throwing guards at you that are immune to psi-powers (you cannot telekinetically pick them up or mind control them), yet thankfully they are few and they are always accompanied by their regular buddies that you can still mind control and go kamakaze with. Then they fuck it all up on the last level. Every guard you run into is immune to psi-powers. There's the occasional rock or crate you can still pick up and throw into them, but the joy of smashing guards into walls is gone. They further fuck up the fun by sprinkling around invisible floating mines(???) that kill if touched and you end up having to slowly crawl and edge your way around them. They could have been fun if they gave you a bunch of regular guards to throw into them so you could watch the resulting shower of meat, but you have to settle for killing the super guards with guns (yawn) then flinging their dead bodies. The final straw in fun killing comes when you run into an endless series of long corridors and super guard(s) at the end with long range, rapid firing rocket launchers, turning the game into a matter of slowly edging around corners until you can just barely target the guard without him targetting you and killing him with guns (yawn). Wrap it all up with the not great story that was left in the background up until now assaulting you with awfulness about missing siblings, a simplistic and boring last boss fight, and an ending that just...ends. Why was the ending so rushed? They had time to include tons and tons of mini-games and worthless extras, but skipped completing the ending?
