Q: What would you get if a guy that directs commercials did a feature-length adaptation of the "Come to Daddy" video? From a purely impressionistic perspective, I thought it was surprisingly decent, especially considering the fact that it starred the star pupil of Joey Tribiani's School of Smell-the-fart Acting, Veronica Mars. I would have liked it a lot more if they hadn't tried to blow it up to an apocalyptic scale. I've never seen the Jap version, but in my experience the Jap versions are never actually superior to the American remakes. On the whole it was very stupid (spoiler at bottom) but there were good moments of glitchy ghosty stuff, so on the whole I didn't feel like it was a waste of time. I watched the special features and I think that the Visual FX team did a great job of not mentioning Chris Cunningham on-camera, which I assume must have been a direction from the film's legal team. SPOILER: So, at the end, the army is creating safe zones in wireless dead spots. I have a great idea for the genius strategists of the Pulse-world Armed Forces: if you turn off the power everywhere, those dead spots would get a lot bigger.
