Re: That's a relief

Otherwise I would have had to put Star Fury back on the list. It really is more fun than Flatspace, but giving you only 2 installs for a download purchase is just fucking ridiculous. For similar reasons, I'm always loathe to recommend a game published by Reflexive or Chronic Logic. I wonder if any sort of study has been performed on sales lost for indie games that give a stand alone full version installer verses games with all this web registration limited installs bullshit.
I should clarify what happened to me with Devil Whiskey. I bought the game when it was first released and everything was fine. They released a number of patches, and I downloaded them just fine. I never threw the game to a CD, however. A couple years after its original release, I wanted the executable again, because I only had an installed copy. The ecommerce piece kept my registration, and I could login, but it did not allow me to re-download the .exe. I sent messages to all the e-mail addresses I could find and got no replies. In fact, they had setup those e-mail addresses to send out messages like, "Fuck off!" They had a forum going, but nobody checked in there, either. I finally just paid for the thing again and redownloaded it. Something changed in their purchasing website, to where you need to buy a "subscription." Those assholes are going to try to bill me again in 8 months. Needless to say, the game is pretty much abandonware. You can't contact anyone involved in its creation, much less from the business side. You can still technically buy a copy, you just have to remember to go into Paypal and tell it to stop billing you yearly. I wouldn't shed any tears if the thing got uploaded to Usenet. ICJ
