The supposed appeal stems from a bunch of externalities that you can't even see on screen. More generally, 10000BC and Doomsday both got savaged by the Tomatometer in spite of being pretty good movies. The takeaway here: expect that, as your nation continues to spin down the slot and toward the muzzle of a Chinese plastic Tron disc-shooting gun into the milky oblivion of apoco-anarchy, your art will become more and more divisive.
