It topped the Softrend chart at #2 yes.
Also I figured out how to fix the problem I was having, thanks to the helpful PLANETDRAKEN forums (yes, a real site, and actually part of the Gamespy network).
GOT IT!!!!!!..found on an old forum..and it works!!!..ok first of all start game and hold down SHIFT at the same time, this opens up the engine but this time has a tab that says DEVELOPER, ok open this tab and select the DEVELOPERS MODE,(make sure it is ticked) then click ok and game starts..at this point start new game and hey presto you have a choice of what level to start on..CHOOSE RUINED VILLAGE as this is the start of the game..and play the start movie and when game begins, SAVE IT and then whenever you play the game you can just load it from that point and just save your progress and then re-load and so on......HAPPY HUNTING GUYS and ENJOY!!!
Yeah so.......... so now I can play Drakan. It's actually an okay game too, you can ride a dragon and fuckin chunk enemies with fireballs. There is a rudimentary physics engine for the gibs so when you wreck barrels or gib enemies their chunks roll all over the ground. I forgot how much this game looked like a Quake 2 mod. :( Everything is really blocky, and it's funny that I can run the game in like 200 frames per second, but the character animations and shit still play at only about 40, so the camera panning is as clear as water but then Rynn starts chopping or a cutscene plays out and everyone moves all choppy (shoot smash stomp chop). I forgot how much games changed. The first thing they want you to do in this game is get a key to open the perfectly wooden door to a house. COLLECT THE KEY. So far the game seems to be showing off its AI, and by AI I mean scripted sequences where you'll see a bad guy orc thing run away and then wave to other orcs who turn around and all run at you, with some of the stiffest animations because this game is very old (old games go to HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). Sometimes when you walk on a wooden bridge, it creaks. Ooooooo. What I do like about the game is that you run around beating the shit out of enemies and then you have an inventory for collecting items. You get a few extra weapons like a mace and shit, but they degrade in durability so you can't use them forever. I haven't had a problem with all my weapons breaking on me yet so I don't care. You can also upgrade your armor. So there some character progression, sort of. It's like a tiny amount of Diablo was put into the game to spice things up.
