Re: Well the movie is still all about Doing Good, so Card won't have to kill him

I recall the scene better now: he said "we three", indicating Harvey Dent was one of the people who made -- whatever decision it was. And "we three" should be held responsible for Rachel's death. To which Dent replied: "Fair enough" and flipped a coin for Batman, shot him, flipped a coin for himself and was spared, then flipped a coin for Gordon's son. So . . . what was the decision and why would Dent hold himself responsible? In any event, there's an obvious question here: why would the Joker mislead Batman at all about which person was where? Does that make any sense?
The Joker would mislead Batman so that Batman would save Dent and Dent would lose Rachel, driving Dent insane. Also, he'd lie just to fuck with Batman in any case.
Fortunately there's no need to resort to the really really stupid "just fucking with him" idea. So the Joker set up the choice -- which one will live? -- but he's not motherfucking Jigsaw or whoever. He's rigged it so that what he wants to happen will happen: he's already noted that Batman has a thing for Dawes and even tells him so. Perhaps he's hoping that when he accidentally saves Dent while intending to save Dawes, the apparent love triangle (with one apex BLOWED UP) will unravel explosively, adding to what he hopes will be Dent's mental collapse. I like this explanation, it makes some sense. Also, he can't just kill Dawes while Dent is listening, he's got to have some will-o-wisp of hope for Batman to pursue to get him the hell out of the interrogation room since obviously, the Joker isn't escaping and killing the Chinese guy while Batman is kicking his ass. It also suggests that the Joker may have believed he was stacking the deck with the ferry game later. I wonder what would have happened if either or both of those buttons had been pressed? Would the other ferry really have exploded? What if each button blew both charges, or the same charge?
