The hanged men puzzle, the rotating light pictures puzzle, the chimera sculpture
...assembly, the sword switching, the cannon set up to fire through the gate of the castle (as opposed to all of the catapults that are designed to bombard its own parapets), the picture shuffling puzzle, the king and queen cups, etc. In addition, there are the occasionally shitty boss fights that did not hold up well in professional (dropping platforms with unkillable form of boss, for instance). But my point is despite the rube goldberg nature of Spain according to RE4, the theme, the combat, and the style of the game carried it through. Good scripted action set pieces can still carry a horror action game. And as of chapter 2, I'm liking DS a lot. Others have mentioned to me that the setting is not as effective as RE4's, and I agree. I really liked shooting Spanish people, and I enjoyed understanding their threats (RE5's Swahili should be special). But there is nothing wrong with hyperindustrial mining spaceships. And yeah, I've beat RE4 at least 8 times, and it never occurred to me to shoot the wine bottle right off the bat. Fuck.
