to no one's surprise. What is surprising is that they managed to make a contained experience that is not directly imitative of Rock Band (apart from the obvious ways in which all of these games are similar) which is capable of competing with Harmonix directly. The relaxed note windows, timing, difficulty curves, and unique GHWT mechanics (layered notes, glass solo notes, etc) add a lot to what could have been a very unpleasant experience for mediocre to good players. I'm hoping the bass parts hold up and use the empty note without going over the top.
Basically, it's a month in which this release and the Pearl Jam DLC for Rock Band made me grateful for competition in this field. |
