Enable that if you want, whatever. Ascension is: there are ascension resources out there that you build starbases on. As soon as someone does that, the countdown to victory commences. And there are like 3 or 4 of those usually. It seems really stupid to me. Go mine the "win" resource, woo. If I enable the influence victory, I sometimes get enemies that expand all over but never build any military at all. Then they get run over and it's silly. Granted, this is one of my custom enemies, so maybe there's something else wrong.
