First off, there's nothing ironic about my recommendation. Transformers 2 is a triumph of blockbuster technique that happens to have been shoveled into a movie-shaped dispenser. It's authentically interesting, although we should all be embarrassed that it's necessary to qualify anything as "authentic."
Second off, I've watched you dumb dicks slagging on hipsters for a few days now, and I don't understand the fucking problem. What, you're mad at them because they like stupid things and are pretentious and their parents pay for everything? That's low ape revenge thinking. Further down that same awful chain is the reason why talk radio republicans hate democrats in the most knee-jerk of ways.
By god I hope I can get rich enough that my kids don't ever have to work and can fuck off experiencing and making culture. Don't you want that for your children? Worse, I could have been one of them, and if I had known then what I know now, I would have done it. I went head first into work is only because I bought the noble lie about the dignity of labor, a lie that most trustifarians are way too canny to fall for. If the argument is that nobody should have enough money to recuse their family members from work - great, go live in a country that isn't America, Canada, or any of the other liberal democratic-leaning nations with strong capitalist tendencies.
It's very funny that we live side-by-side with these idiot peacocks widdling on about their pointless bands and art projects and threadless t-shirts, yes. But it ain't a hanging offense to be a peacock, and there aren't too many people on this forum, or any other forum, whose work couldn't be done by lots of other people. Perhaps the true hipster offense is their insulting pretense of meaningful uniqueness when surely they aren't meaningful or unique and surely they can tell that and must be deluding themselves (i.e. stone cold projection)? Help me out here, I'm trying to draw a bead on the problem.
Fundamentally I think the world is incredibly big and that there aren't a lot of things which are objectively bad or wrong. I don't have hipster friends and I can't live in the hipster world, but I don't want to live in fucking Afghanistan either, and I'm not about to tell the Afghanis to cut it out and act normal already.
I think attacking hipsters is a culturally conservative thing to do, and it's really stupid, because hipsters and trustifarians rest very lightly on our available resources. They are also magnificent like Vikings at uncorking the cash reserves of their parents, people who have often accrued enormous amounts of dosh that would otherwise never see the light of day. They're trickling down at warp speed! |
