As for the story, I wasn't really bothered by it, since 90% of the western RPGs I've played recently boil down to "cookie cutter idealists vs. nihilists" with the other 10% letting you pick "one type of nihilist vs. a competing type of nihilist" also I guess sometimes you fight fascists. Persona 4 really doesn't produce a much better story, but it's more tolerable in that it doesn't break down into anime cliches and FAQ reading until the very end. Unless you need to solve all the quests, max all the s.links, and do all the special fusions that is.
Granted they still miss some pretty basic shit, like changing the battle music, your leader still having Son of Bhaal syndrome, and the little skits are super fucking long. Though it's hands down better than any recent JRPG(not that I play them), in mechanics, story, and localization. |
