American workover
Holy shit that's terrible. When I heard there would be a remake, I was expecting it to pale in comparison of course, but not fail so completely. A straight line-for-line replacement is a terrible choice since it destroys the improvised (un)easiness of the original and besides, it's wholly unneccessary. America also has offices, and bosses, and comedy. And writers! The Office premise and style could've been the basis of a new series. Instead it feels like a black and white movie was colourized.
When I watched this remake I wanted to accuse them of hiring unfunny people, especially in the case of Tim/Jim, but I know Steve Carell can be funny, so it's hard to lay that blame other that to say that it's Ricky Gervais' very specific comedy, and doesn't sound good coming out of a non-Ricky Gervais. A point Ray of Light already made. |
