Iverson isn't selling season tickets for anyone anymore. Sure, he's still an effective player, but he's not the explosive crossover machine he used to be. In all honesty, I'm surprised that he's remained at his current level for this long: the way he drives the lane at his size, it's a testament to his durability and toughness that he hasn't completely disintegrated, Gary Payton-style.
If the Grizzlies wanted to sell tickets, they'd have made moves to clear the deck for Chris Bosh starting last year; you can't effectively compete when he hits the free market, so put together a sign and trade of expiring contracts that improves Toronto's flexibility and ensures that they get some value for him as opposed to just walking away during the summer. Mayo/Bosh/Gay plus a veteran center who can play a role and prevent a team like the Magic from just manhandling them up and down the court? Seventh seed this year, third/fourth seed next year. |
