Costumes!
The latent homosexuality of the DOA series has already been covered in Fussbett's excellent DOAXBV review, but I feel it's also worth noting that all female characters in DOA can be dressed quite sedately if desired, whereas earning extra outfits for the male characters invariably reveals gay, gayer, gayest in that order.
They straightened this out a bit in Dead or Alive Ultimate where the 137 unlockable costumes seem to mostly stem from the DOAX bikinis, while the guys just get the weird stuff like scuba outfits and the dress up aspect isn't front and center.
Of course it's entirely possible I just didn't notice the skimpiness of the male outfits. It's also possible that during my random versus random matches I haven't even seen a large amount of all 137 costumes.
On a more earnest note: why would anyone want or need a ninja game besides Shinobi? Which was perfect in every aspect.
I hope you mean the original Shinobi and not the 2002 abortion. |
