A sturdy wooden gate, about ten feet in height. It stands stolidly shut, a slightly rusty latch locking it in place.

Although securely locked, poor craftsmanship combined with time and weather have left the latch hanging somewhat akimbo. There is a gap of several inches between the top part of the latch and the warping wood of the gate itself.


Which part is the top part? A gap of several inches, and it's still locked somehow?? Lacking a background in 17th-century British latches, I had to cheat on the first puzzle. :(
