I am putting this here so I'll have something to
distract me from the miserable slob I am replying to.
Foo2k: I've been trying to get uwpp to switch to this forever and I can't have you undoing all of my good work. The default library and playback style for foo are the album list and playlist. They are difficult to work with if you don't have immaculate tags.
I want to also stress for Creexul's sake that everything that follows applies to tryhard fags and he should stop reading now. Winamp is a fine program for people with less-complicated music libraries, needs, and minds.
For everyone else, what you want instead is to get aggressive with your layout AND most importantly to install the Facets library. Facets, APE support, and SoundTouch are the only plugins I have on my foo install because it's otherwise a fantastic program. Click on pix for the big version.
See, that's the album list in the upper right, and it would use a default playlist seen on the upper left. This is annoying, so I don't fuck with it. I use the facets in the middle to navigate my sloppy library.
Here's a setup where there's a list of playlists OH FUCK YOU CAN EVEN DRAG AND DROP ONTO THEM and a tab of playlist tabs so I can see what's on any playlist without having it as my active playlist. Should foo do this by default: how the fuck would I know, it works just the way I want it to now.
Double-clicking anything from the facet library will automatically send the selection to the "Facet selection" playlist, set that playlist as the active playlist, and begin playing from it. When a non-facet-selection playlist is up, you can browse your library and add songs to the active playlist by dragging and dropping, or selecting and right clicking to the third menu item, or by hitting shift+enter like a normal human being.
Tabs are your friends. Look at all those fucking tabs. I like foo because it's tidy and configurable like this and I can make the colors match my yaoi wallpaper and the fonts match my yaoi manga. After using foo for so long, Winamp seems like a chore exacerbated by childish design decisions.
Some notes about "next":
I admit that there is nothing that ever tells you what playlist is active except the power of your own intellect. However, the options in these menus are useful for determining what happens once you've overcome that hurdle. |
