Probably should have mentioned that; it was a shock to me, but it's not a secret.
I guess he stole the "mine" part, and added the "craft" part... and also the dynamic liquid blocks and plant blocks and such? The dynamism is the main thing that makes it interesting to me. I mean, not the weird switches and doors and mine carts he's been putting in... that stuff is cool, but it's clumsy to work with, because you have to manually place every tiny piece of every mechanism. But blundering into a hidden pool of lava, and then getting to decide whether to carefully build a path that avoids it, or guide it down into the next cave and use it as an extremely hazardous skeleton-extermination tool, is awesome.
I wish he'd work on adding real liquid displacement instead, however the mine carts have rendered some incredible results:
