Watching Hanoi repeatedly demolish Greek attempts at too-near expansion in the only habitable space left on the map, using the units I gifted them (mech infantry vs musket...GO) was tremendously entertaining, especially the third time or so that they razed the city Greece kept founding after bombarding it with the destroyer I gave them. I think I'll preselect Greece and France for the next game, as I really like their penchant for trying to steamroll city states. It makes the late game much more enjoyable to fight proxy wars through them, and they have yet to fly any airplanes into my buildings as a result of years of warmongering intervention. Certainly a lot better than bribery as a means of interacting with them. I hope any expansions work on the diplomatic options for both city states and empires, as I'm a little bored by the binary attitudes of the latter and the irrational feedback for almost everything except for their craven surrenders when you are on the verge of getting their capital. Why yes, I will take your entire empire and gold, thank you for choosing that over annihilation. Well, annihilation right now, vs later, given that it's the only victory condition.
