Instead, most first-person shooters give you a camera with a crosshair on it, through which you interact with the gameworld by gliding around and clicking on things until they die or explode (sometimes both). It's less like controlling a human being and more like controlling a well-armed hovercraft. Which is fine and enjoyable, but I fail to see how it proves that a mouse and keyboard are the be-all and end-all of input devices, practically virtual reality if you think about it *strokes chin*. There are some types of games for which a mouse and keyboard are especially well suited, and (perhaps not coincidentally?) those types of games are very popular on PC these days, but there are just as many types of games for which a mouse and keyboard are sub-optimal. Do you think I keep a plastic guitar around just to impress girls? I got news for you buddy, I don't even TALK to girls. |
